Project Description
Keene Music Hall
The Keene Music Hall at Rollins College purpose was to house the music school administration and classrooms, to renovate the existing facility, to expand by 7,000 GSF, and to provide an acoustical multipurpose room, practice rooms and a state-of-the-art recital hall. One of the greatest challenges to this two-story project was the finite funding for construction. Therefore, it was decided that the exterior would have an understated yet elegant expression to delicately utilize the color, texture and massing of the campus architectural vocabulary.
The interior of Keene Music Hall was developed using a design theory of “the color of music”. ACi Architects chose color palettes for the various building functions, which created unique environments within the facility. We organized the functional requirements around acoustical state-of the-art requirements. These are seen in the recital hall’s band shell forms and the dramatic cascading, syncopating rhythm of the walls with colors that provide a harmonic visual cadence expressing “the color of music.”
“The aesthetics, functionality, and acoustics of the project were delivered on time and under budget. We simply could not have asked for a more receptive and competent architectural firm”
– Dr. John V. Sinclair, Director of Music at Rollins College
